Tessoria Asolana began in 1848, founded by a weaver from Como who arrived in the Veneto region at the end of the First Italian War of Independence. His idea of loom and fabric production was accepted by the Velo family, who created the first loom to start what would become one of the main weaving workshops in the region.
Over time the company grew and achieved international visibility: Tessoria Asolana’s furnishing fabrics and silks reached Buckingham Palace and the most distinguished international residences, receiving prestigious awards.
In the 1930s, Tessoria participated and won important prizes at international exhibitions, such as the gold medal at the Milan Triennale, and began collaborations with great architects such as Gio Ponti and the BBPR studio. In the sixties Carlo Scarpa settled in Asolo and established a collaboration with Tessoria Asolana, which led to the creation of original textiles.
In 2015 Carla Tomasella, of the well-known Pianca company, chose to acquire the brand and revive it. The ancient manual looms have been recovered, restored to new life and are used for the processing of wool, with which we give shape to limited edition carpets, handmade using the techniques of the past, but with contemporary designs.
Thanks to the involvement of designer Davide Brugiolo, Tessoria Asolana can return to its ancient vocation: that of experimenting with a new aesthetic language, new concepts, techniques and textures, to rediscover a timeless art.
Today Tessoria Asolana has become a treasure chest, guarding cultural fabrics woven with Italian history.
The production of our pieces takes place entirely in Italy: from the original materials to subsequent processing. In fact, the wool used for the carpets in the Edizioni Limitate collection comes from dairy sheep farms in Sardinia, ethically grown in nature. The coloring of their wool takes place with natural pigments from a small laboratory on the outskirts of Florence. Davide Brugiolo’s continuous research for Tessoria Asolana has also given life to the carpets of the Opere Uniche collection which see the recovery of precious, albeit recycled, materials from the historic Lanificio Paoletti. Even today, each carpet is made entirely by hand, without the use of machines: every centimeter, every meter, tells of tradition and innovation, experimentation, research, care and respect.
